This region of Arkansas is known as the "Ouachita" part of Arkansas or "Ouachita National Forest". There are many interesting State Parks and Museums in this area.  You'll find:

  • Queen Wilhelmina Lodge - High atop Arkansas's second highest peak, this cloud-capped state park named for a Dutch monarch reigns above the Ouachita Mountains just north of Mena, Arkansas.  Located on the Talimena Scenic Drive, a National Scenic Byway, the park is as rich in history as in panoramic scenery.

  • Cossatot River - This park-natural area extends for 11 miles along the wild and scenic Cossatot River.  The river forms Cossatot Falls, a rugged and rocky canyon that challenges most experienced canoeists and kayakers with its Class IV rapids.

  • Lake Ouachita - Surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest, Arkansas's largest lake is known for it s scenic beauty and the clarity of its waters.  Lake Ouachita is a 48,000-acre water sports mecca for swimming, skiing, scuba diving, boating and fishing.  Angling for bream, crappie, catfish, stripers and largemouth bass can be enjoyed in open waters or quiet covers.

  • Daisy State Park - Lake Greeson, the Little Missouri River and Daisy State Park make a winning combination in the Ouachita foothills.  Greeson Lake has 7,000 acres of clear water and mountain scenery, delights water enthusiasts.  Black and white bass, stripers, crappie, catfish and bluegill account of the lake's popularity with anglers.

  • Lake DeGray Resort - Arkansas's resort state park lies on the north shore of DeGray Lake, a 13,800-acre fishing and water sports paradise.  A 96-room lodge, camping (113 sites including Premium, Preferred, Class A and a "Rent-A-Yurt", swimming tennis, golf, hiking, bicycling and guided horseback trail rides await you at this resort state park.  DeGray's full-service marina offers tackle, dock space, fuel and a wide variety of boat rentals.

  • Lake Catherine - This captivating park is nestled on the shore of 1,940-acre Lake Catherine, one of the five popular Diamond Lakes in the Hot Springs area.  The park features rustic-style facilities constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

  • Pinnacle Mountain - Pinnacle Mountain is a day-use park dedicated to environmental education, recreation and preservation.  Park interpreters and volunteers help visitors and students understand man's relationship to the environment.
